Houghton Regis Academy is part of the Greenwood Trust Academies Trust who are responsible for consulting on and determining our admission arrangements. Central Bedfordshire Council process admission applications on our behalf.
In September, your Year 6 child will move from Primary to Secondary School. This transfer can seem quite complicated, however, you will be issued with instructions from Central Bedfordshire County Council (CBC) to explain the process in detail. CBC will provide you with information about the Secondary Schools in the area, and instructions on how to express your preferences on the application form. It is important to read all of this literature thoroughly to ensure you understand the application process clearly. Alternatively please click here to access the Central Bedfordshire County Council Website.
Every school is legally bound to publish a set of Admissions Criteria to ensure that all children, regardless of background, have a fair and equal chance of taking up a place at their preferred school.
Houghton Regis Academy will first accept all pupils with a statutory right to a place through an Education Health and Care Plan naming the Academy. After the admission of these pupils, criteria will be applied for the remaining places in the order in which they are set out below:
a) All ‘Looked After’ children previously ‘Looked After’ children*.
b) A child with a sibling* on roll at the Academy at the time of application and admission.
c) Any other children.
In the event of over-subscription using the above criterion, priority will be given to those living closest to the Academy using a straight line distance and using the LA’s computerised measuring system*.
The Local Authority will measure the distance from the address point of the child’s home to an agreed point on the Academy site.
