Library
Houghton Regis Academy Library
The Library is a busy place at the heart of the Academy, adjacent to the ICT suite. The library is open between 8.30am and 4.00pm every day, including break and lunchtime. The six library computers have internet access and printing can be done by arrangement with the Librarian; use is monitored by the Librarian and the ICT support.
Offering fiction, non-fiction, reference books, audio CD's, magazines and newspapers the Library is intended as a curriculum support for all members of the Academy. An induction lesson takes place in Year 7 ensuring that all our pupils have the opportunity to develop their information literacy skills. Fiction reading is specifically encouraged throughout all years, and in collaboration with the English department. All Year 7 and 8 pupils are currently enrolled on our Acclerated Reader Programme.
Academy Pupils and the Library
The Library is a quiet area for private study, homework, or just browsing for a suitable book to read. Resource materials are available to support the curriculum from Year 7 through to Year 11.
All new pupils automatically have a library account and may borrow two library items at a time for up to two weeks.
Academy Staff and the Library
All Houghton Regis Academy staff are members of the Library. We encourage teaching staff to take an active part in reviewing their subject stock and in recommending new publications.
Academy Parents and the Library
The Academy subscribes to the Schools Library Service and pupils wishing to use resources from the County Library Service should join the County Library in order to benefit fully from the services offered on its website at bedfordshire.gov.uk
